GDC 2013!!!

It's been a while since my last post but much has happened in the last several months. I'll get to all of it very soon, but for now I am really excited to announce that I will be speaking at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco in Read more

And I'm back!

I know I've said this before, but what a year! I meant to write a lot more these past several months, but Hitman: Absolution took every moment I had. Even when our newest little one, Livia, was born I only got a brief break before diving right back into Read more

More than anything, I just wanted a reason to post that image. So, I'm going to be making a couple of additions to the site. If you haven't noticed already, I have added an Animation page (you can click on it at the top). I'll be adding an updated demo Read more

a hell of a year...

Well, hello. It's been a while. 2011 has been one kick in the crotch after another and updating the blog always felt like the last thing I wanted to do at the end of the day. Not that things have gotten any better or easier, but I'm getting the urge Read more

a pox on our house...

(artist rendering) So I have come down with the chicken pox. It sucks. Along with the Norwalk of '06 and the Rotavirus of '08, this falls in my top three worst sicknesses. I wish I could say the time off from work has been relaxing, but it has been a sweaty, Read more

where did the time go?

It’s been so busy this last month. The weather has been amazing and work has been getting more and more crazy. Plus, I’ve been super lazy with taking photos.

Yesterday was my last day of work until the second week of August. The whole studio shuts down for three weeks in the summer to give everyone a holiday. Three weeks in the middle of a project! Unheard of in North America. It could have come at a better time with all of the stuff I’m trying to get done at work, but it’s also a much needed break.

We’re going to try to pack in as much as possible. On Monday, we fly out to Rome for four days. Then we come home for a couple of days and are renting a car for two weeks. We’ll be driving down through France and hopefully see a little of Spain, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands along the way. Our main goal is to make it to Nice, San Sebastian, then head up the west coast for home. I’m working on the itinerary right now, but at least we’ve got the car rented. Road trip!

So, I’ll try to catch up on the last month.

At the start of the summer is of course graduation time for all the students. Only here, they do it with style. Large groups of high school students rent old army trucks or flat-bed trucks, put on sailor caps, and drive around blaring music, drinking, and generally being hoodlums. They stop by each of their homes where the parents serve them drinks and toast them before heading back out on the road. It’s loud, mental, and looks like a ton of fun. Canada, pay attention, this is how it should be done. Here’s one such partymobile, an old fire engine (yes, that’s a blow up doll. Almost every one of the trucks has some sort of inflatable sex toy)…

Also part of summer is the beach party. A couple weeks ago we headed down to Amager Strand to the biggest annual one, around 20,000 peeps getting drunk on mojitos and beer, dancing to yet more bone crushing techno. Here we are enjoying the last rays of sun just down the beach from the party. Still sunny at 10pm!

The crowd in front of the stage…

Another shot from the other side of the stage (near the hot dog and crepe stands, my tummy says hi!)…

Bad cell phone pics, I know. Like I said, I’ve been lazy about bringing the camera around. Here’s Melissa, Leigh, and our new friend Mette enjoying the beeps and boops…

…that’s Chris (one of the animators from my team) photo bombing in the background.

Here’s a random pic of the kids enjoying some økologisk pølser (organic hot dogs) beside the round tower one day…

Earlier in the year, we bought a year’s pass to Tivoli so we’ve been going there quite a bit. Here’s a couple pics of the kids on one of the little ferris wheels…

I’m sure I’m leaving out a ton of stuff, but those are most of the photos on my phone. On Friday morning, Ken, Vanessa, and little Kobe popped in for a visit. They’re coming with us to Rome for the week before heading home from there. Here’s Leigh and Vanessa off to the hair dresser this morning. Vanessa getting a taste of Danish transportation…

Lots of pics coming soon. Look out Europe!

sunsets, steaks, and soccer!

Tonight we decided to go full Danish and bbq dinner in the park near our place. You can buy disposable grills at the local grocery stores for a few dollars and we brought some steaks, rice, and veggie kabobs from home. The kids played while I cooked and it turned out to be a great evening.

Lots of people doing the same thing tonight but it’s a huge park and as you can see, we had plenty of space to stretch out. On the other side of the park there’s a large gazebo where they were salsa dancing. We rode past to check it out then wound our way through the nearby forest to discover a clearing where they were having a swing dance party as well. It’s crazy how much stuff is happening here in the summer. I heard that Europeans really pack it in during the warmer months, but you have to see it to believe it.

We stopped for some ice cream on the way home to wrap up a really nice evening.

daddy’s day…

I meant to post pictures of these last week but couldn’t find the time. The kids drew me some sweet father’s day cards. Above is the inside of Emma’s. Here’s Evan’s portrait of me…

And here’s the front of Emma’s. That’s me surfing…

I’m so proud of both of them. This move hasn’t been easy and their well being was our biggest concern. There have definitely been some hard days, but for the most part they are handling the change well and wake up happy and ready to explore their new surroundings every day.

Last Friday was Emma’s last day of Kindergarten and she passed near the top of her class. She can read so well and is writing better every day. She can even do math! She has impressed us both with how well she did this year even with all of the sick days, moving to the other side of the world, and having her new best friend move away.

Evan starts in his new børnehaven (kindergarten) in august and I can’t wait for him to make some friends. He’s been cooped up all winter with his crazy sister and it will be great to socialize with some new kids.

ny strand!

During the winter, they constructed a new beach (‘strand’ in Danish) just north of us and last weekend was the grand opening. With the weather approaching 30 degrees today, we decided to head over and check it out. Looks like everyone else had the same idea.

We managed to find a couple of meters of open sand to stake our claim and broke out the beach gear. The kids dug for treasure while Leigh and I soaked up some much needed sunshine. We are turning into real beach junkies lately. Luckily, there are quite a few in Copenhagen and the surrounding area. The water is still pretty cold, but it didn’t stop them from jumping in for a while.

So glad summer is finally here. This next week looks to be the hottest yet, too!
